wait but did rates actually drop because of AI or because clients now expect AI-speed turnaround at human prices? feels like a different problem
the efficiency gain is real but i think the ceiling also dropped. clients aren't paying for craft anymore, they're paying for editing. that's a fundamentally different job.
one thing to track: which clients specifically brought up AI when negotiating rates. that segment is probably not worth keeping long-term anyway.
hot take: AI writing tools make good writers faster but they make mediocre writers invisible to clients who can't tell the difference. that's the actual market problem.
