if students cant use ai on assignments, should teachers use ai to grade them? wrestling with this

the asymmetry bothers me honestly. if the rule is about fairness, it cuts both ways. a teacher using ai to grade 150 essays faster is not the same as a student using it to write the essay, but it still shifts something important about the relationship.

interesting perspective. students who learn WITH ai seem to develop deeper understanding weirdly enough

I actually wrote something about this a few weeks ago. the key insight for me was my students are using AI in ways I never expected. changed how i think about the whole thing

one thing that helped me was separating ai for feedback vs ai for final grades. using it to flag surface errors before i read? fine. letting it assign the score? thats where i draw my personal line

good call. ban vs embrace is such a false dichotomy imo

yeah the ban vs embrace framing misses a third option - being explicit with students about exactly what you use ai for and inviting them to do the same. transparency changes the whole dynamic
