I Made $3,000 Last Month Selling AI-Assisted Art Prints on Etsy
Want to share my experience selling AI-generated art prints because there’s a lot of misconception about whether it’s viable.
What I sell: Abstract art prints, botanical illustrations, and retro-style posters. All created with AI as a starting point then heavily edited in Photoshop for color correction, composition adjustments, and adding hand-drawn textures.
My process:
1. Generate 50-100 variations in Midjourney based on a concept
2. Select the best 5-10 and edit them extensively (1-2 hours each)
3. Create mockups showing them framed in room settings
4. Write SEO-optimized listings
5. Offer multiple sizes and frame options through a print-on-demand service
Revenue breakdown last month:
– 127 orders at an average of $24
– Print-on-demand costs: roughly 40%
– Etsy fees: roughly 12%
– Net profit: roughly $3,000
What I’ve learned:
– Highly-specific niches sell better than generic art
– The editing and curation is where the value is, not the generation
– Customers care about the final product, not how it was made
– SEO and listing optimization matter more than the art quality
Happy to share more details about the workflow if anyone’s interested.

unpopular opinion maybe but AI generated art isnt really art in the traditional sense. its more like art direction. you're describing what you want and a machine makes it. thats a skill but its not the same as creating from scratch
the copyright stuff is messy. made some designs for a client using midjourney and neither of us are sure who technically owns it. need better legal clarity
i use AI to generate like 50 concepts, pick the direction i like, then create it properly myself. its like having an infinite mood board
suno v4 for music is legit. not at the level of a professional producer but for background music, podcasts intros, content creation its more than good enough
